Section 8 Program

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a HUD funded program that allows the Housing Authority to directly subsidize the monthly rent payments for very low income families.

Linn-Benton Housing Authority administers two types of Section 8 Housing assistance programs: Housing Choice Vouchers and Moderate Rehabilitation.

Housing Choice Vouchers

In this Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program, eligible families find their own rental units in the existing housing market. Families pay a portion of the rent and utilities, generally equal to 40% of their adjusted monthly income. The Housing Authority pays the landlord the balance of the rents on behalf of the families.

In addition to regular Housing Choice Vouchers, the following specialized vouchers are offered:

  • VASH-The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).  VA provides these services for participating veterans at a VA Medical Centers (VAMC) and community-based outreach clinics. Persons interested in this program should contact the VA directly at (541) 242-0445.

  • NEDNon-Elderly Disabled Vouchers Housing Choice Vouchers designated specifically for non-elderly disabled families. Families who qualify are automatically applied to this program waiting list when applying to the regular Housing Choice Voucher program.

Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation Program

The Housing Authority provides a rent subsidy guarantee to units that have been approved and rehabilitated in accordance with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. Tenants residing in these units pay 30% of their monthly income for rent and utilities.  Under this program, the Housing Authority provides subsidies for units in a former hotel, The Julian, in Corvallis that have been extensively remodeled into studio and one-bedroom units.
