If you wish to add a person or persons to your household, we recommend you contact your Case Manager first to discuss the process. See above for Case Manager Information.

The family must obtain approval of any additional family member before the new member occupies the unit except for additions by birth, adoption or court awarded custody. Your landlord must also approve of the addition.

With the exception of Live-In-Aides, the individual(s) you wish to add to your household must fall under the definition of a family member. The Housing Authority definition of family also includes two or more individuals who are not related by blood, marriage, adoption, or other operation of law but who either can demonstrate that they have lived together previously or certify that each indidual's income and other resources will be available to meet the needs of the family.

The Housing Authority will conduct determinations of eligibility for all additions to the household prior to giving approval. Some reasons for denial might be recent drug or violent criminal activity, owing money for a damage claim, or being previously terminated from participation in the Section 8 Program. If the addition is approved, the Housing Authority will send a notification confirming the addition to your household. If the addition to household is denied, the Housing Authority will send a notice of ineligibility stating the reason for denial.

To add a child to your household complete the Add Child to Household Form on the download forms section.

To add an adult to your household, complete the Adult Addition to Household Form on the download forms section.

It is your landlord's responsibility to maintain the unit and complete repairs. If you need a repair, contact your landlord immediately to let them know. We recommend you do so in writing.

If you are unable to resolve the issue with your landlord, contact your Case Manager and let them know. If the item(s) you need repaired would result in a failed Housing Quality Control inspection, we will send an inspector.

The availability of units is extremely low right now. We highly recommend you talk with your Case Manager before making the decision to move.

You may be eligible to move if you have lived in your current unit with housing assistance for a year or more.

Once you have received approval from your Case Manager to move:

- Give your landlord written thirty day notice and supply a copy to your Case Manager
-Schedule a Lease transfer appointment at the Housing Authority.
-You will sign a new voucher and be given the appropriate paperwork to get started on a move at this appointment.
-Be sure to leave your unit in the same or better condition than when you moved in.
-Turn in the Request for Tenant Approval (blue sheets) to the Housing Authority once you have located a unit. This will get an inspection scheduled.
-The day the unit passes inspection, or the day after we have completed payments to your current landlord, whichever is later, will be the beginning date for the new payments.
-Stay in contact with your Case Manager as there will be further paperwork and a contract to sign.

Before starting payments on a new unit, the Housing Authority is required to complete and pass a Housing Quality Standards inspection. Once you have turned in the appropriate paperwork to let us know you have located a unit, the inspector will call you or your landlord to set up an appointment.

The Housing Authority is required to re-inspect your unit at least once every 24 months. We will send you and your landlord notice approximately three weeks in advance for those inspections.

As a participant of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, there are certain rules that you agree to. These rules or "family obligations" are covered extensively at the briefing appointment when you first began receiving housing assistance. The voucher program is optional, and you can end your participation at any time by completing the End of Participation Form and returning it to your case manager. Please be advised that if you do this, you will need to re-apply and get on the waiting list if you ever decide that you would like to participate in the future.

As a victim of domestic violence you have some additional protections under the law. For example, you cannot be denied assistance or terminated/evicted on the basis of an incident of domestic violence.
